Dirt track on Hwy 82 to re-open this weekend

It’s hard to miss the dirt track that has sat unoccupied on Hwy 82 just west of Paris and many have wondered what would become of it.

Whilst a car hasn’t driven on the track in over two years, this Friday night new owners Tracy and Shelley Peters will turn the lights on once again as they launch ’82 Speedway’ and their Friday night series.

“Tracy, Shelley and the whole team want to have a good place to race and a good place for fans to come and enjoy the sport,” said marketing manager Trent Wyrick.

Having raced his whole life, Tracy always wanted to own a racetrack and when the opportunity arose he jumped on it.

“Everything at the track is different,” said Trent. “They’ve updated the bathrooms, concession stand and even the track configuration is different and improved.”

With five classes running each Friday, 82 Speedway plans on adding other types of cars to the series in the future.

“In the future, we’ll have other types of cars (traveling type series cars) and things you wouldn’t see around here,” added Trent.

The track will be open every Friday night, starting July 20th, with plenty of seating for fans.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and the race starts at 8 p.m.

General admission is $15. Seniors, military, and children (6-10 yrs) are $10. Children 5-years and under are FREE. Pit admission is $30.

“We have a local very experienced flagman who runs a really good show and all our staff is experienced in this industry and a great crew.”

Racecar drivers can find out more information via 82 Speedway Facebook page – click here.

Classes each Friday night will be modifieds, limited modifieds, factory stock, economy modified and economy stock car.
