A Delta County woman was arrested Tuesday morning on a criminal negligence charge after a toddler was found about a quarter-mile from the child’s home suffering from apparent burn injuries consistent with prolonged exposure to extreme heat and direct sunlight.
Lake Creek resident, 25-year old Skyler Nance was arrested on Sept. 22 on a state jail felony warrant for Injury to a Child/Elderly/Disabled Individual with Criminal Negligence.
According to reports, Delta County Deputies responded to the 200 block of CR 1187 in the Lake Creek area on Sept. 15 after receiving a report of a found child.
A neighbor reported finding the toddler asleep on the front porch of a residence approximately one-quarter mile from the child’s home.
At the time, outdoor temperatures exceeded 100 degrees and the child was wearing only a diaper.
“Responding deputies observed significant redness and apparent burn injuries on the child’s back, consistent with prolonged exposure to extreme heat and direct sunlight,” said DCSO.
Emergency medical personnel treated the child at the scene before transporting him to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs for further evaluation.
Child Protective Services was notified and participate in the investigation which resulted in the child being removed from the home once released from hospital.
Nance was booked into the Hopkins County Jail, where her bond was set at $15,000.
