While conducting a security check on Aug. 23, Delta County Deputies discovered a large inventory of stolen property at a storage unit facility and arrested 47-year old Enloe resident, Minnie Bernice Matthews, who was moving stolen items into her own storage unit.
Around 2:45 p.m., deputies were on routine patrol conducting a security check of the Delta County Self Storage Facility in the 3000 block of SH 24 North, when they noticed a vehicle inside the facility and observed multiple unit doors open.
Upon further investigation, they found a female wearing a headlamp walking in and around the storage units.
Upon making contact with the female, she was identified as 46-year-old Enloe resident Minnie Bernice Mathews.
Due to the prior burglaries that occurred at this facility and her demeanor, deputies continued speaking with Ms. Mathews.
In plain view in Ms. Mathew’s vehicle, deputies observed narcotics. Deputies also recognized paintings in the vehicle that had previously been reported as stolen in a burglary of a storage unit.
It was also determined through their on-site investigation that the units had been broken into and that Ms. Mathews had been moving items from storage units that had been burglarized to her own unit.
Several items have been recovered and the owners have identified the property.
Ms. Mathews was brought to the Delta County Jail where she has been booked in for 1 count of Second Degree Felony Possession of a Controlled substance over 4 grams, 2 counts of State Jail Felony Burglary of a Building, and 1 charge of Misdemeanor A Possession of Dangerous Drugs.
Ms. Mathews is currently being held on $30,500.00 total bond pending trial.
There is a large inventory of property that has been seized and has not been processed.
“We are currently running leads to clear burglaries from other storage buildings. If your storage building was broken into in the last 2 months, please contact the Delta County Sheriff’s Office at (903) 395-2146 and ask to speak to Investigator Hastings,” said Delta County Sheriff Charla Singleton.
