Roxton VFD and the community are mourning the loss of Roxton VFD firefighter, Kendall Hatanville who served the community with “courage, dedication, and selflessness – answering the call whenever others were in need.”
“With heavy hearts and profound respect, we honor the life and service of Firefighter Kendall Hatanville,” said Roxton VFD on Wednesday. “His commitment to protecting Roxton and surrounding areas will never be forgotten. He stood as a symbol of bravery, brotherhood, and community spirit.”
Hatanville joined the Roxton VFD when he was 18-years old, serving his community for the past 16-years.
In 2024, the City of Paris EMS recognized his passion for helping others and dedication to the Roxton Volunteer Fire Department with the Distinguished Service Award.
In an interview with myparistexas.com following the award ceremony, Hatanville said he was thankful for the award.
“I’m thankful for being honored with this plaque and enjoy working alongside the men and women with Paris EMS. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard it from a number of them (Paris EMS) on calls, ‘Kendall, what are you doing here,’ and I know probably shouldn’t be out running calls but helping others is what keeps me going,” said Hatanville.
Hatanville had been on dialysis for kidney disease while also dealing with lung issues.
“The illness has slowed me down some but won’t stop me completely,” he said. “Last year, I was told I would never eat again unless it was through a feeding tube but I have since started eating normal food again. I also have a drain in my side draining fluid out but they don’t know where the fluid is coming from.”
Roxton VFD said whether he was battling flames or lending a helping hand, Hatanville’s presence was a “beacon of hope and strength.”
“We will miss his steady hand, his generous heart, and the unwavering devotion he brought to the Roxton VFD. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the service he gave. Rest easy, brother. We’ve got it from here.”
Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
