Carol Ann Rooks, 75, of Paris, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Carriage House Manor in Sulphur Springs. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled a celebration of her life for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1st at Evergreen Pavilion, with Rev. Gifford Long officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Born October 29, 1949, in Paris, Carol was the daughter of Jess Edward and Kathryn Carroll Rooks. A proud graduate of Paris High School, she went on to earn both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from East Texas State University. Her devotion to education spanned 31 years, all of which were spent at the Travis Campus of Paris ISD. She poured her heart into her students and colleagues, shaping countless lives with her warmth, patience, and wisdom.
Carol was a lifelong and faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where she joyfully sang in the choir, played in the handbell choir, and participated in various Bible studies. Her faith extended beyond the church walls—she was a longtime volunteer with UMCOR and the Paris Food Pantry, and she remained active in United Methodist Women, the Texas Retired Teachers Association, and the Texas Classroom Teachers Association.
Known for her welcoming spirit, Carol never met a stranger. She loved to travel and was always ready for the next adventure with family or friends. Children were naturally drawn to her, and she cherished their energy and laughter. After retirement, Carol treasured her weekly lunches with friends and dedicated much of her time to her church community—tending to flower beds, assisting with events, and especially helping with the annual teacher salad luncheon.
Among Carol’s greatest joys in life were her nephews, Gage and Rafe. She was their biggest cheerleader, always eager to share a story about their latest milestones or shenanigans.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James E. Rooks (Jim). She is survived by her sister-in-law, Nancy Rooks; her niece, Anne-Michelle Penson and husband Dave; her beloved nephews, Gage Penson and fiancée Hanna, and Rafe Penson; as well as numerous cousins, extended family members, and a host of cherished friends.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Choice Hospice, Carriage House Manor–Sulphur Springs, Brentwood, and Spring Lake for their compassionate, loving care, and to all of Carol’s dear friends who supported and visited her throughout her journey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church or the Paris Food Pantry. Carol’s legacy of kindness, service, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
