A candlelight vigil to remember Deputy Rahamy Mitchell, who lost his life on Jan. 7, 2007, in the line of duty while working for the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, will be held Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, on the 15th anniversary of his death.
“Deputy Mitchell loved being a police officer and loved helping people,” said Sheriff Mark Johnson online.
A scholarship fund was set up in 2018 to honor his memory by helping others attend the police academy.
“To date, we have paid the tuition cost for four Fannin County individuals to attend the police academy either in Hunt County or Grayson County,” said Johnson. “The cost has ranged from $2,500.00 to $2,800.00 and all four individuals successfully completed the academy and are now licensed Peace Officers.”
Those wanting to honor Deputy Mitchell by contributing to the scholarship fund can do so at Fannin Bank or at the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office.
“We look forward to seeing you on Friday as we remember this fallen officer.”
The candlelight vigil will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 7:00 pm at the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office.
The public is welcome to attend.
