Today is the first day for candidates to file for the upcoming Paris City Council Election.

Voters in Districts 4, 5 & 7 will be able to elect or re-elect their City Council members this May.

Two applications have already been received from Dr. Steven Clifford and Paula Portugal.

Dr. Steven Clifford has filed for re-election.  Dr. Clifford represents District 4 and currently serves as Mayor.  Clifford’s most recent term as Mayor began controversially as no other nominations were taken before he seconded his own nomination and held a vote. This has led to changes in the Council’s nomination process across the board.  If re-elected, it’s expected that he will be nominated to continue serving as Mayor.
Paula Portugal has also filed for re-election.  Portugal currently represents District 7. It is widely speculated that, if other nominations had been taken before the vote, Portugal would have also received a nomination for Mayor last May.  If reelected, It’s expected that she will also be nominated for Mayor.
