Brian David Newsom, 55, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Plano Medical City Hospital.
Visitation will be held at Bright-Holland Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 – 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at Paris Church of God on Wednesday, June 24th at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dakota Taylor and Matt Bawcum officiating.
Brian was born on June 5, 1971, in Paris, TX to Kathy Ballard and Jim Newsom. He worked as a carpenter his entire life, both for his father and as his own boss. He led many young people to God through his time as a youth pastor at Paris Church of God and continued when he began his own ministry at the Starting Point. Anyone who knew him knew of his uncommonly great kindness and generosity. Deserved or not, Brian was always more than willing to support those who needed it.
He loved to play softball, where he earned the infamous nickname “Frog” for his hoarse voice. If you ever saw him play, you’d remember just how fast he could run, how he always insisted he still had it in him, and just how dedicated he was to having fun. He was also well-known for his love of superheroes, comic books, racing, and cooking. More than anything else, Brian always made it clear how much he loved his daughter and how deeply he cared for his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Mamie and Rev. S. J. Newsom and Jewel and Louise Cope, and nephew Zane Newsom.
He is survived by his daughter Summer and husband Aaron Roberts, brother Greg and wife Amy Newsom; sisters Della and husband Brad Leonard, Melanie and husband Steaven Lee, Brandi and husband Cody Upchurch, and Denee and husband Dakota Taylor; nieces and nephews Jessica Alberty and Tyi Leonard, Dillon Newsom and Lane Newsom, DJ and Eli Ledbetter, Olivia Lee, and Sutton Taylor; step-father Dwayne and mother Kathy Ballard, step-mother Renee and father Jim Newsom.
Casket bearers will be: D. J. Ledbetter, Josh Green, David Strain, David Roberts, Chad Whitley, and Mike Flippen. Honorary bearers will be all his softball buddies.
