The Blossom 10u girls softball team will head to Texas State Tournament in Anahuac, Texas, next month after an impressive comeback last weekend to win District Finals.
‘We lost our first game to Broken Bow which sent us into the first round of the losers bracket, causing us to play four games on Saturday,” said coach Brook Allen. “The girls only had an hour break between one those games, the rest were back-to back.”
Despite an uphill battle, the girls were able to win their way back up to the final game, winning district finalist, and being the first team in over five-years in Lamar County to head to state.
“The team worked together the whole day getting their wins. Kynidee Mabb had 29 strike outs during the tournament and Dash Dunning, second baseman, made a double play and had several assist outs at first with Kainbri Stephens playing first letting nothing by her. Our catcher, Taigun Benitez worked hard behind the plate getting a huge tag on a girl on the way to home play, as well as catching two pop-flys behind the plate. Paisley Resendez caught a pop-fly on center field to help win the game against Titus County that helped secure a spot to state. We were down by 3 in the last inning with Titus County and brought in 4 runs that last inning with a big hit from Hallie Unruh to get us 1 point ahead.”
The team will now head to the Texas State Tournament from July 12-14 in Anahuac, Texas.
The team is made up by Taigun Benitez, Brynlee Bridges, Dash Dunning, Ava Michael, Kynidee Mabb, Kainbri Stephens, Paizley Resendiz, Emily Roberson, Hallie Unruh, Callaway Watson, Kaydence Stephens, and Keira Pryor.
The girls are coached by Brook Allen, Zack Michael, and Jenna Stephens.
