Senator Susan Collins of Maine has introduced a bill that would honor 41st President George H.W Bush and former First Lady Barbara by making them the face of a new $1 coin to begin circulation in 2019.
Sen. Collins says the coins will pay respect to the Bush legacy of, “courage, duty, honor, and compassion.”
H.W Bush and wife Barbara both shared residency in Maine and Texas, having strong ties to the state of Texas.
Sponsors include Collins and independent Sen. Angus King of Maine, along with GOP Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn of Texas, and Rob Portman of Ohio.
