The Paris ISD Board of Trustees on Monday celebrated the first three graduates of its Grow Your Own Teacher program.
Lametria Wallace, Savannah Peralta, and Pamela McCarty all completed the coursework required to become classroom teachers while continuing to serve Paris ISD students and campuses.
“The Grow Your Own Teachers program was created to invest in members of our own Paris ISD family who dreamed of becoming certified teachers. These three ladies took on college coursework while continuing to serve our students and campuses — and tonight, we get to celebrate all of that hard work paying off.”
The Grow Your Own program in Texas is a state-backed initiative managed by the Texas Education Agency. It helps local school districts build teacher pipelines from with their own communities, targeting high-need areas like bilingual and special education by supporting high school students, paraprofessionals, and local staff to become certified teachers.
“Pamela, Savannah and Lametria, Wildcat Nation is incredibly proud of you! We can’t wait to watch you take this next step and continue making a difference for Paris ISD students.”
