Weldon Slaton, 94, passed away peacefully on Feb. 4, 2026, surrounded by his family. He lived a life filled with kindness, laughter, and generosity.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. Private inurnment will be made in Evergreen Cemetery.
Weldon, the son of Thomas Slaton and Lillie M. Wright Slaton, was born Nov. 28, 1931, in Bogata, Texas. He attended school in Deport and Bogata, graduating in 1951. Weldon entered the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Bliss El Paso during the Korean War.
He attended Paris Junior College and received his Bachelor’s degree in education in 1962 from East Texas State University and his Master’s degree in 1964. He married Teresa “Terri” Myrick on Jan. 28, 1961, in Dallas, TX building 65 years of family and memories. Weldon worked with Safco Insurance Company as a sales representative for ten years. He then moved to Paris and worked as a partner with Philly-Slaton Insurance Company, later owning Slaton Insurance Company. He retired in 1992 from Slaton Investment and Real Estate.
Weldon enjoyed raising Lorg Horn cattle and mini horses. He was an avid golfer. He served all offices in the Lions Club including Deputy District Governor. He was a member of the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce, had been president of the Independent Insurance Agencies Association, was a board member of the American Red Cross, had received his 50-year Masonic Lodge pin from Lodge #381in Deport, and he was a member of the Dallas Texas Shriners. Weldon was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Paris.
Weldon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His beloved beautiful granddaughter, Emily Eddlemon, would always end their conversations with “I Love You”, and Weldon would reply, “I Love You More”. He is survived by his wife, Terri, his daughter Cindy Slaton, and three grandchildren, Caroline Slaton, Pierce Slaton, and Emily Eddlemon along with several nieces and nephews and a plethora of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James “Jimmy“ Slaton, four brothers, and one sister.
