The Reno Police Department arrested a 27-year-old man from Bogata, Texas, on a Cruelty to a Non-Livestock Animal charge after police observed him leave a puppy in the roadway and said he admitted the offense.
According to reports, around 1 p.m. on Jan. 8, an officer was patrolling in the 6300 block of Old Clarksville Road when he observed a vehicle driving away from a puppy standing in the roadway.
The officer stopped the vehicle and conducted an investigation.
“The driver admitted that he abandoned the puppy on the secluded section of the road because it was ill,” said Reno PD.
He was arrested for Cruelty to a Non-Livestock Animal, a class A misdemeanor, and transported to the Lamar County Jail.
“The puppy was located and immediately received veterinary care. The Reno Police Department reminds citizens that there are several agencies in this area that are available to assist with animals, and that abandoning an animal in their care is a crime that can lead to jail time. The Reno Police Department would also like to thank Animal Health Center, Paris Animal Control and the Lamar County Humane Association with their assistance in this case.”
