James Douglas Spencer Jr., known to all as Jim, of Powderly, Texas, passed away on November 25, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on June 7, 1945, he was the son of James Douglas Spencer Sr. and Joyce Loureva Williams.
Jim was a proud graduate of Texas Tech University and a dedicated United States Navy veteran who served honorably in the Vietnam War. His service to his country remained a point of deep pride throughout his life.
On April 12, 2008, Jim married the love of his life, Donna Spencer. Together they built a blended family that brought him immense joy. He is survived by his children: Stacy Spencer of Granbury; Trey and Nicole Gifford of Van Alstyne; Brandon and Jennifer Moore of Paris; and Fair Shae and Jerad Guest of Pattonville.
Jim was a devoted grandfather to Jordyn Sullins, Brooklyn Vosser, Harmony Hamil, Ruscha, Jagger, and Lennon Moore, Kenneth Paul and Grayson Gifford, and McKenna and Brecken Guest. He also leaves behind one treasured great-granddaughter, Elise Paredes. Jim is survived by his brothers, Rick Spencer and wife Maria, and Mike Williams; his sister, Debbie Newcombe; and his best friend, Jim Beard and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Don Spencer.
Anyone who knew Jim knew his love for the simple joys of life. He spent countless peaceful hours fishing and smoking cigarettes on the deck, watching over “his” pond behind the house—one of his favorite places in the world. Though he insisted he didn’t want a dog, his beloved Schnauzer, Peppy, quickly became his constant companion and best little buddy.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to On Call Hospice & especially Betty Kelley and Shirley Posey for the extraordinary care and compassion they provided in Jim’s final weeks, allowing him the comfort of remaining at home.
There will be a visitation of family and friends at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home in Paris, Texas, on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 1:00–3:00 p.m.
Jim will be remembered for his humor, loyalty, and the quiet steadiness with which he cared for the people and places he loved. His presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
