Acting on a tip from the U.S. Marshals Service, the Red River County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cleofas Mendez, a fugitive wanted for First-Degree Rape who had reportedly been evading law enforcement for more than five years.
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, the RRCSO Street Crimes Unit, under the direction of Lt. Freddy Booker, immediately initiated an investigation following the tip from U.S. Marshals.
Mendez was taken into custody without incident at a residence in the Clarksville area and booked into the Red River County Jail.
He is currently being held on an outstanding warrant issued by the Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, for Rape in the First Degree. Mendez has reportedly evaded law enforcement for more than five years prior to his arrest.

All suspect are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
