Students in Mrs. Waldroup’s Health Science class at North Lamar High School shared an important life lesson with first graders at Everett Elementary this morning—how to properly wash their hands.
As part of the project, the Health Science students created engaging presentations designed to capture the attention of young learners. They also provided activity sheets to reinforce the lesson and, most importantly, led a hands-on demonstration using a “glo-solution” lotion.
First graders applied the special lotion to their hands and examined them under a blacklight before washing. After scrubbing at the sinks, they returned to see how well they had cleaned. Many quickly discovered the importance of scrubbing thoroughly, with some having to rewash multiple times to make sure their hands were truly clean.
The activity combined fun with education, helping students understand that washing their hands takes time and effort to be effective.
North Lamar’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) organization was instrumental in making the activity possible. “Thank you, HOSA, for investing in our youth and teaching the importance of healthy habits,” said district leaders.
