A 5K fundraiser to help raise money for a Higgins Elementary student’s fight against brain cancer is set for Dec. 3 at South Main Iron in Paris.
The Alex Stephens Superhero 5K Benefit will raise money for 6-year-old Alex Stephens, who has recently been diagnosed with an Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT) of the brain, a very aggressive cancer.
Alex’s little sister, 4-year-old Meredith Stephens, was diagnosed with stage neuroblastoma just last year.
“As always, the wonderful people at South Main Iron – Paris, Texas, and Paris Coffee Co. immediately joined me in putting this fundraiser together for this family,” said event organizer and Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop President Amanda Willows.
The race and walk begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, at South Main Iron with an awards ceremony following shortly after.
Registration fees are $25 for the race and begins at 8:30 a.m. the morning of the race.
There will also be a silent auction organized by Tessa Rushin with all proceeds going to Alex and his family.
All proceeds from the event will be used for bills and expenses as the family travels back and forth to Dallas for hospital visits and treatments.
To donate, sponsor the event, or volunteer, please contact Amanda Willows at 903-732-7860. To donate to the silent auction, please contact Tessa Rushin at 903-449-9291. There is also a GoFundMe for Michelle and her family at https://gofund.me/37cf0142
