According to Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, a man claiming to be from Publisher’s Clearing House Prize Division, going by the name of Albert Johnson from 516-269-6256, contacted a local couple.
“The man told the couple that they would need to meet a representative of Publisher’s Clearing House at the Paris Wal-Mart with identifying information and a certificate from Wal-Mart proving that they had sent the money,” according to the sheriff’s office. “The couple recognized the caller as a scammer and refused to meet with the caller.”
The call was verified to be a scam after the couple called the true Publisher’s Clearing House. Over the last few days, according to the sheriff’s office, the caller continued calling the couple trying to get them to meet with someone at Paris’ Wal-Mart or their home.
“If you receive any calls similar to this, please be aware and never give out your information, always verify with the true company first.”
