A Paris man was arrested in Hopkins County on Monday night after leading officers on a high speed pursuit before fleeing on foot and ending in a swimming pool.
According to reports, Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Scott Davis observed a vehicle traveling south bound on Hwy 19 N traveling 75mph in a 65mph zone. The drive of the vehicle, later identified as 25-year old Ajalen Meontre Sanders, led police on a high speed chase exceeding speeds of over 100mph before another officer successfully deployed stop sticks near the intersection of Loop 301 and McKinsey Drive.
The pursuit continued ending a short time later on Live Oak when Sanders exited the vehicle and fled on food. Sgt. Davis reported observing the driver open the driver’s side door and throwing something towards the curb which was later identified as a plastic Ziploc bag containing a green leafy like substance believed to be marijuana showing a weight of 1.4 ounces including the packaging.
After a short foot chase, Sanders was located in a homeowners pool and was placed into custody. Records showed Sanders had an active Parole warrant and confirmation was received.
Sanders was transported to the Hopkin’s County Jail and booked in without further incident. He is charged with Parole Violation, Possession of Marijuana, Evading Arrest, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
