Both Detroit Future Farmer of America groups at the junior high and high school levels will host a 2020 “Leaving a Legacy” community service project where members will paint the rail at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday around Detroit Veteran’s Park and walking tracks. The Detroit City Council and Detroit Little Motor City Drive Group are supporting the event.
The organizations are choosing to paint the surrounding rail blue to support the school district, and the paint is being supplied by Lawrence Painting.
For student members, the time spent at the event will count for double community service hours, but all Detroit Independent School District students are invited and encouraged to paint. It is encouraged to wear proper clothing for painting and face masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Since the recent Spring Banquet was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, 2019-20 FFA awards, medals, and certificates will be distributed at the gathering. Parents will also be assisting in serving hot dogs and homemade ice cream to those painting.
