With current restrictions making it hard for kids to get out and about, a new craze is sweeping the internet, bringing families together to go on a ‘bear hunt.’
The bear hunt is based on a children’s book by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury called” We’re Going On A Bear Hunt.”
The idea is that while you’re out on a walk, bike ride, or a slow drive, your kids can be on the lookout for teddy bears in the windows of homes and businesses. It’s something families can do and still keep social distance.
Those participating are placing teddy bears in their windows so families can drive around “spotting” and counting bears.
A.M. Aiken Elementary School is also encouraging people to jump on board.
“Hey, y’all! We’re hearing about neighborhoods doing some special things to provide a little fun for families while we’re practicing social distancing – this is so cool! And finally, the weather might be on our side for a change so we can get out for some fresh air! Some neighbors are putting bears in their windows so families can go out for a walk and “go on a bear hunt. Some neighbors are painting rainbows and displaying them in windows,” said the school on social media.
It is unknown where and when the ‘bear hunt’ started, however, it is clear Lamar County businesses and households are joining in so kids can find a little more joy and have fun adventures when cabin fever gets a little too much.
“My family loves the ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ book, so we are all thrilled and eager to participate. I just wanted to share this idea in case others want to start Bear Hunts in their neighborhoods,” said one local mother on Facebook.
