The Antique Automobile Association Texas Region will visit Bonham this weekend, Saturday, Aug. 26, for the 55th Annual Bug Tussle Trek.
This year the group will be making a pit stop at the Fannin County Courthouse from 11:00am to 1:30pm.
AACA Texas Region Members will park and have an opportunity to enjoy a guided tour of the restored 1888 Fannin County Courthouse, enjoy lunch at a variety of restaurants and shopping in Bonham’s historic downtown.
“The Bonham Visitor Center is thrilled to welcome the group with complimentary Bonham 175th Anniversary themed desserts and public restroom facilities,” said organizers.
Why is the route called the “Bug Tussle Trek”? According to several AACA- Texas Region members, the Trek started after a conversation among members to take one last car tour for the summer.
They opened up a copy of the Farmer’s Almanac and chose the hottest day of the year which happened to be the last Saturday in August that year.
The group stopped at a once thriving general store in Bug Tussle, TX to get something cold to drink.
Ever since, the Trek has taken place the last Saturday in August.
