Chili season is back in full swing, and the personnel of Powderly Volunteer Fire Department is ready to serve up hot bowls during their annual fundraising event.
“We will have plenty of chili, and plenty of items for both our live and silent auction that will be on the day as well,” said Public Information Officer Randi Johnson.
Last year’s event raised $30,000 and went towards the department purchasing 32 new sets of PPE bunker gear and SCBA air packs along with other pieces of equipment.
“Each year, we see around 300 to 400 people come to join us for the afternoon, and it’s always a fun time,” said Johnson.
Powderly VFD members are still looking for donations for auction items. If you are interested in donating, please contact Edward Handley 903-669-8832 or Randi Johnson 903-249-1393.
“All funds raised help the department run throughout the year. Anyone who has been to our chili supper in the past knows we always have a wide variety of items up for auction,” said co-chair of the event Ed Handley.
The event will be held at the Aaron Parker Elementary School gym in Powderly from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29.
