The last week preceding North Lamar’s graduation is a busy time for seniors.  There’s the senior walk, senior slide show, Baccalaureate, exams, graduation practice, and finally graduation.  Afterward, there’s Project Graduation, then a time to pick up diplomas, and a date for final transcripts.   It’s helpful for parents to be clued-in so they can take part and inform other family members as needed.

Beginning Tuesday, May 22, members of the 2018 class, wearing their caps and gowns, will parade the hallways of the North Lamar campuses.  The senior walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Bailey Intermediate then proceed to Higgins Elementary, Everett Elementary, Stone Middle School, and Aaron Parker Elementary.

Following announcements at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, seniors will go to the auditorium for the senior slide show.  Parents are welcome to attend and reminisce through the growing years of their student and their friends.

That evening families are invited to a Baccalaureate service beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the NLHS auditorium.  Seniors wearing their caps and gowns will be honored in a religious service that focuses on students’ personal growth and achievement.  Lamar County Young Life director Luke Finch will address the audience.

Exams will be May 23-25 for those needing to finish up the semester.  Fourth period exams will begin on Wednesday.  Fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth period exams will be on Thursday, and first, second, and third period exams will be on Friday.  NLISD will have an early release for all campuses at 1:00 p.m. on May 25.

Seniors will report back to R. L. Maddox Stadium at 3:00 p.m. on Friday for graduation practice.  They are encourage to bring a bottle of water.

Graduation day seniors are asked to report to the south end of the track no later than 6:15 p.m. with their caps and gowns.  Proper dress for males is a collared shirt with dress pants, dress shoes or boots, and socks.  Proper dress for females is a skirt and blouse, dress, or slacks, and dress sandals or shoes. The graduation ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Project Graduation will follow at 9:30 p.m. in the NLHS gym for a night of fun.

Diplomas may be picked up in the NLHS office from 8:30 to 1:30 Monday through Thursday beginning May 30.  Beginning June 12, final transcripts can be picked up in the counselors’ office from 8:30 to 1:30 Monday through Thursday.  Only the student can pick up and sign for his or her diploma or transcript.  Transcripts are provided free to graduating seniors from June 12 -28.  After June 28, there will be a $3.00 charge for transcripts.
