The Paschal full moon is the biggest and brightest of the year, according to “The Old Farmer’s Almanac,” and will be visible just after sunset. You will have plenty of time to gaze at the yearly phenomenon as it’s expected to reach its peak of illumination at 9:35 p.m. CST.
The Paschal moon, more commonly known as the “pink moon,” comes from its association with the early springtime blooms of the pink Phlox subulata flowers. This particular moon fills the sky as the first full moon after the Spring Equinox.
Its namesake means “Passover” in Greek (a transliteration of the Hebrew word Pesach). Meaning this moon is more significant because it is used to determine what date Easter will fall on each year. This is why Easter is a movable holiday, occurring anywhere from late March to late April.
