Tommy Dean “Toots” Thompson, 59, passed away suddenly on April 3, 2026, leaving a space in our hearts that can never be filled.
Tommy was born on December 10, 1966, in Dallas, Texas, to James and Rita Thompson. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Rita, and his grandparents, Ray and Nora Barnett, who welcomed him home with open arms.
He is survived by his sister, Rhonda Hayes and her husband, Reggie of Blossom, TX, his brothers, Ronnie Thompson of Pottsboro, TX, and Bubba Thompson and his wife, Herrin of Sherman, TX. His children: Ashley “Sky” Cosgriff and her husband, Edward; Trenton Dean Thompson and his wife, Jenna; Darbie Thompson; Aireul Allison; and Lola Thompson. He was “Papaw” to his treasured grandchildren: Paislee, Eden, Jax, Adelyn, and Elizabeth, who brought him much joy. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews Starr Dawson, Billy Don Malone, Gary Malone, Wesley Malone, Elizabeth Thompson, Jadin Thompson,
numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, extended family, and a special family friend, Robin Conaway.
Those who knew Tommy knew he had a big, soft heart and loved with everything he had. He never met a stranger and made everyone feel loved. His children and family were his greatest pride, and he carried them in his heart wherever he went. Tommy had a special way with animals, and they were drawn to his gentle spirit just as people were; kindness simply came natural to him.
In his younger days, some of Tommy’s happiest times were spent at the lake swimming, fishing, playing horseshoes, and laughing with family and friends. He loved anything on two wheels, from mini-bikes to motorcycles, and the freedom of the open road. He was always ready to sing along to a good song and jump up to dance, convinced he had all the right moves and to those who loved him, he did.
Tommy will be remembered for his deep love, his quick and funny sense of humor, and the gentle kindness he extended to everyone around him. His legacy lives on in the stories we share, the laughter he gave us, and the many lives he touched. The family is grateful to the staff at Focus Care for the care and compassion they showed him during his short time there.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 515 Sunset St., Blossom, TX 75416, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember Tommy’s life.
