Thomas Nicholas Casey, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025, in Paris, Texas. Just Saturday he visited with many of his grandchildren. He left to them a legacy of deep love for God, country , hunting and fishing.
Thomas was born to Zearl and Mary Haynes Casey on May 20th ,1944 in Mexia, Alabama. He graduated from Vigor High School, class of 1962. Upon graduation Thomas served in the U.S. Air Force until December of 1966. He was a Vietnam veteran. After honorable discharge from the Air Force Thomas began his college education with G.I. bill and working full time. His B.S. was in history from Louisiana College. His master’s in Divinity was from Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, Tx.
Thomas spent over twenty years as a Southern Baptist minister. He brought people to the Lord, both in Louisiana and Texas. He then became a licensed paramedic. He worked in the triage area at HCA Healthcare Mainland for a few years. He retired as a sergeant from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Department as a jail supervisor. Since then he has resided in Reno, Texas with his wife of 29 years, Sara, enjoying grandchildren.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Zearl and Mary Casey. Also his brothers, Clement and Robert (Bobby) Casey passed away.
He is survived by his brothers, Stanley Casey and wife, Nancy of Saraland, Alabama and Paul Casey and wife Beth of Ft. Myers, Florida. Survivors also include wife, Sara Sheffield Casey of Reno, TX, sons, Andrew Casey of Reno, TX., Matthew Casey and Layan Dhaher of Dallas, TX., one daughter, Elizabeth Bradley Bolen and husband, Clay Bolen of Texas City, TX. ; survivors also include two brothers-in-law, Gary Sheffield and wife, Kay of Colorada Springs, Colorado and Glenn Sheffield of Texas City, TX.; grandchildren, Nevin Casey, Kayley Casey, Caleb Casey, Hope Casey, Tobias Casey, Benjamin Casey, Drew Casey, Alyssa Casey, Madalyn Casey, Hannah Casey, Jackson Casey, Samuel Casey, Ashton Bradley Hardy and husband, Laine, Robie Bradley, Dane Bergvall, Dason Bergvall and Diem Bergvall, Tom and Sara’s first great grandchild is expected this weekend.
Special love and thanks extended to Roy and Sandra Hocutt and Jerry and Marsha Williams for the love, friendship and help especially over these last few weeks. Gratefulness extended to Shawna RN and Signature Home Health for an excellent, caring job and to Clarksville Nursing Center and Rehab, Tom’s care was superb. The nurses and doctors at Paris Regional gave very compassionate care to patient and family alike. Our sincere thanks to Celeste Wilcox, M.D., Kim, Annie, and the chemo nurses, along with the entire staff at Texas Oncology.
A memorial service will be held at East Paris Baptist Church in the near future.
