On Friday, an Amber Alert for Chucky the doll and his child was mistakenly sent out from the Texas Alerts system.
In the alert, Chucky is is listed as the suspect and described as a 28-year-old male with red, auburn hair, blue eyes, stands at 3’1″, and weighs 16lbs. It stated he was seen wearing blue denim overalls with a multi-colored striped long sleeve shirt and wielding a kitchen knife prior to his “disappearance.”
Also listed in the alert as an abducted child is Glen who is described as five-years-old, weighs 6lbs, stands at 2’3″, and also has red, auburn hair and blue eyes. Glen was last seen wearing a blue shirt and black collar prior to his “disappearance.”
While the date and time on the alert was current, the phone number did not work.
KENS 5 reached out to DPS, the agency that manages the alert system, for comment and received this response:
“This alert is a result of a test malfunction. We apologize for the confusion this may have caused and are diligently working to ensure this does not happen again.”
The AMBER Alert System began in Dallas-Fort Worth when broadcasters teamed with local police to develop an early warning system to help find abducted children. AMBER stands for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response. The acronym was created to remember Amber Hagerman, who was kidnapped at 9 years old while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas, and then murdered.
