The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of yet another phone scam going around.

“The caller says they are an Officer with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office or the US Marshal’s Service,” said Sheriff Cass. “The caller is asking for your social security number and telling you to go to your bank and wire them money for a false legal matter.”

Sheriff Cass said this is a scam and the Sheriff’s Office will not call and advise you that you have a warrant, ask for a payment, court costs, fines or any money nor will the US Marshal’s Office.

“Please let your elderly neighbors and family members who don’t have Facebook know this is a scam as they may also be receiving calls.”

If you have or do receive a call like this do not give them any personal information and disconnect the call. If you are suspicious of any calls you have received contact your local law enforcement agency.
