The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office cautioned citizens on Monday, Aug 22, about another scam making the rounds.

“We have received a call about a scam where someone claiming to be with Direct TV advised a citizen that they needed to upgrade their software system and equipment and that it would cost $199.00 and they needed their credit card information otherwise they would lose service within 24 hours,” said the department.

The sheriff’s office said they had made contact with the service provider and were told that they would not contact customers requesting any information of that nature.

“If you receive a call similar to this, or anything that you feel is suspicious, hang up and contact your service provider directly to ensure that your personal information does not end up compromised.”

As always, if you are unsure of anything, feel free to contact the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office at 903-737-2400 with any questions.
