The Sheriff’s Office has taken a report on a phone scam currently circulating in Lamar County.
The caller will advise you that one of the Lamar County District Judges has issued a warrant for your arrest due to failing to report for Jury Duty.
The caller will also advise that you need to get a pre-paid debit/credit card and load it with $2500.00 in order to “pay out” on the warrant.
The caller will also place another scammer on the phone who will advise they are Sheriff Scott Cass.
In the event that you advise the scammer that you were unable to load a pre-paid card, they will then ask for your banking information, credit card information and social security number.
We are imploring you to be vigilant with your personal information, DO NOT give your information.
The Sheriff’s Office will NOT call you advising that you have a warrant for your arrest or asking you to transfer or wire money.
If you have received a call similar to this please report it to your local Law Enforcement Agency.
Please inform your family members and friends, especially the elderly and those without Facebook or internet access.
