Ruby Faye Simmons, 88, affectionately known by many as “Granny Faye” or “The Chicken Lady”, of Biardstown, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Legend Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17th, at Rockford Cemetery with Rev. Mike Clark officiating. A formal visitation is not scheduled, however, family and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home.

Mrs. Simmons, the daughter of L. O. and Ida Russie Adams Butler, was born March 19, 1929, in Lamar County.

She attended Hudsonville School at Taylortown. On Sept. 1, 1946, she married Clayton N. Simmons building sixty-one years of family and memories before his death on December 22, 2007.

She worked a number of years at Swift Packing Company and in the kitchen at St. Joseph’s Hospital before beginning a career at Superior Switchboard where she retired.

Ruby Faye was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Biardstown. She was a faithful volunteer for the Biardstown Community Center. She’d help organize games at the Halloween Carnivals and prepare food. She was known near & far for her chocolate pies!

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Mary Faye Simmons in 1949, four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two children, Barbara Igo & husband Paul of Sumner and Eddie Simmons & wife Tanya of Biardstown, a special friend whom she thought of as a son, Charlie King of Biardstown, three brothers; R. L. Butler & wife Liz of Biardstown, Melvin Butler of Broadway and Dean Butler & wife Peggy of Clardy, two sisters; Joyce Williams & husband David of Glory and Kathleen Miller & husband Phillip of Clardy along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends.

The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Legend Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center for the love and care given their loved one.

Mrs. Simmons’ nephews will serve as honorary casket bearers.
