Roy Curtis Darby, 76 of McAllen, Texas passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023.
A graveside service has been set for Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Mount Tabor Cemetery with Rev. Brad Crosswhite serving as Eulogist. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.
Roy was born on June 15, 1946, in Gowen, Oklahoma to Evelyn and Leonard Darby. He married Virginia Owen on July 4, 1974, in Brookston, Texas. Roy served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1968, having served in the Vietnam War. He retired from Campbell Soup after 32 years of employment.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years: Virginia Darby; 3 daughters, Manon and Tommy Joe Carico of Paris, Texas, Marline and Michael Hunt of Mabank, Texas, Roiline and Lisa Carlow of Reno, Texas; his companion, best-friend and “baby girl”, Tippy; 11 grandchildren, Kera and Brandy Britten, Justen Gray, Joseph and Ashley Gray, Lacey Britten, Zachary Gray, Kyla and Lance Sessums, Jordan and Jerry Barber, Tristan McFadden, Texas Darby, Cooper Darby, Liberty Darby; 7 great-grandchildren and one on the way; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 6 sisters, Kathleen Lowe, Loretta Knapp, Imogene Peck, Connie Owen, Bonnie Rider, Delores Anderson; numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Evelyn Darby; brother, Ervin Darby; 2 sisters, Alice Dunn and Norma Neff; son, David Darby.
Serving as “Pa” bearers are Kera Britten, Justen Gray, Joseph Gray, Tristan McFadden, Texas Darby, Cooper Darby, Jerry Barber. Honorary “Pa” bearers are Zachary Gray, Joe Proffer and Bobby Spencer.
