Rev. Roger Newton Scaff, 84, of Powderly, passed away Monday, May 13, 2024, at his home.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 17 th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Gary Monroe officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Red Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m.
Roger, the son of Charlie Scaff & Louvaine Barton Scaff, was born April 9, 1940, in Matador, TX.
He graduated from Matador High School in 1958. Roger then joined the United States Army, and upon his honorable discharge returned to complete his education. He attended Texas Tech University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in education in 1969. He attended Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth and became an ordained minister. Roger was a teacher and worked on weekends preaching and pastoring at churches starting in Munday, TX continuing in Denton County. He retired when he was the pastor of the Pattonville Baptist Church. Rev. Scaff was a faithful member of Bounds Baptist Church. He loved spending time with family, being outdoors and enjoyed using chainsaws and cutting firewood, and of course, watching The Texas Ranger Baseball. He loved his church family and was a faithful servant of the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Elaine (Lynch) Scaff on June 1, 2019, and siblings, Thomas Scaff, Jane Cartwright, and Joyce McCarty.
Survivors include his daughter, Carin Campbell (Sid), grandchildren, Caleb Melton (Ashley), Chelsea Fleckenstein (James), Garrett Driskill, Carmen Driskill, Jordan Braziel (Sophie) and Jacob Campbell, great-grandchildren, Eivør Melton and Preston Fleckenstein, a sister, Jill Scaff, sister-in-law Jimmie Kruntorad (John), along with several nieces & nephews, a host of friends, and his beloved dog, Gruffy.
