HUNT COUNTY – A man is in custody after officials say he shot at Hunt County Deputies and DPS Troopers during a high-speed chase Saturday night.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said 19-year old Dayton Blane Green fled from one of his deputies who tried to pull him over on North Street in Campbell after disregarding two stop signs at a high rate of speed at approximately 10:40 p.m.

“The Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver fled north towards Commerce with speeds exceeding 100 mph,” said Meeks. “As the pursuit entered into Commerce, Troopers with the Department of Public Safety were able to successfully deploy spike strips but this did not stop the driver.”

According to the report, the pursuit continued through Commerce and as the vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Live Oak and SH 24.

“The driver then fired three shots striking the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle,” added Meeks.

The deputy nor any assisting DPS Troopers were injured.

Green was checked by AMR at the scene and transported to the Hunt County Detention Center where he was booked in on two counts of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant, Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1, Unlawful Carrying of Weapon and Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle. His total bonds add up to $395,000.00.

“I am thankful that no one was injured as a result of Mr. Green’s reckless action and I commend the Deputy and Troopers on scene for taking this violent subject off the streets.”
