More than 1.2 million Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks have been recalled as the tailgate latch may fail, risking cargo stowed in the bed spilling out, potentially causing a crash.
The recall affects 2019-2022 Ram pickups and does not include trucks with multifunction tailgate, or tailgate sensors, or Ram 1500 Classic pickups.
According to the recall, the problem is traced to one or both tailgate strikers being misaligned, risking the tailgate becoming unlatched and opening.
In June 2022, an improved alignment tool was implemented for production. Heavy-duty trucks built after June 1, 2022, are not included in the recall.
The company said they are not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the recall.
Owner notification letters will be mailed at the end of January, 2023. Until the repair is made, Stellantis encourages owners to secure their cargo, following directions in the owner’s manual.
