Peggy Beard Stinson, of Allen, and formerly of Paris, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Medical City in Plano, Texas.
Peggy, the daughter of William Love Beard, Jr. and Martha Pearl Phillips Beard, was born on March 30, 1941, at St. Joseph Hospital in Paris, Texas. She married the love of her life, Hurshell Lee Stinson, Jr., on March 19, 1960, building many years of family and memories.
Peggy gave extraordinary care for Hurshell through his diagnosis of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Peggy was by his side for the entire illness, demonstrating complete devotion and acting as an amazing caretaker throughout the lengthy 10 years.
Peggy loved her friends and family deeply. She was very social and always loved a gathering. She traveled extensively with family and friends, and Thanksgiving was always spent with her sister Jane’s family in Memphis, Tennessee, creating some of the family’s best memories. She and Hurshell often entertained, and Peggy would always be prepared with a delicious meal, whether for executives Hurshell brought home or for the children’s friends.
She loved to cook and was the best at it. She packed and moved to Holland when Hurshell had a job assignment there, making many memories while navigating Europe with the Lazarine family. She remained connected to family while overseas, and a highlight was when family came to visit. A comical memory from their time in Europe was her attempt to communicate with the Dutch milkman, who arrived with a horse-drawn wagon. He did not speak English, and Peggy did not speak Dutch, but she managed, and they received milk and cokes from the old Dutchman.
Her life was full, and she loved to shop, once convincing Hurshell to bring home all of her European purchases instead of the American items they had brought overseas. Her house was always decorated with Delft, Wedgwood china, Hummels, grandfather clocks, and many antique furniture pieces. Peggy often spoke of getting her driver’s license at age 14 so she could pick up local children to take them to Bible school—the beginning of her time hauling young people to church. She loved singing her hymns; even though she couldn’t carry a tune, she sang from her heart, and it was beautiful. She made sure her children, Wendy and Shelley, were in church their entire lives. Faith, family, friends, and community were all important to Peggy; she loved and served people.
These characteristics led her to explore cosmetology when her children were older. She attended cosmetology school in Austin and had a gift for cutting hair and counseling from the beauty chair. However, she was not a business woman; when she gave away more haircuts than she charged for, Hurshell decided to close her shop in McKinney and built her a small salon in their home for her to “give away” many haircuts.
She never missed a ballgame that Wendy and Shelley were involved in and was always there for them. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and her great-grandchildren were the icing on the cake. She never stressed about broken things, messes, or noise because she loved children deeply. She often spoke with sincere admiration and love of her four favorite people in the world: “Jane, Peggy, Billy, Susan.” Four-wheeling trips were a big part of her retirement. Adventure, travel, fellowship, faith, family, and support are all characteristics of Peggy’s life.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Jane Beard Whitesides; a granddaughter, Autumn Geneva Duckett; mother-in-law Rebecca Louise Stinson, father-in-law Hurshell Stinson, Sr., a brother-in-law, Wayne Stinson; a sister-in-law, Amanda Stinson.
