Beginning today, Dec. 27, 2021, U.S. passports will get more expensive as the State Department announced a $20 increased fee on the book.
“The increased fee is necessary to ensure we continue to produce one of the most secure travel and identity documents in the world,” the department said on Twitter.
A first time or to renew by mail, the book now costs $130 for adults and $100 for minors, children under the age of 16, in addition to other fees.
Processing times on U.S. passports takes around 58-11 weeks, however, if you expedite it at an additional cost, you could have it in 5-7 weeks.
