The Paris Public Library invites everyone to celebrate and learn about our nation’s history through a new temporary exhibit, Texas America250. The exhibit, provided by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, is on display until Feb. 28, 2026. Later, it will travel to the Maxey House, North Lamar ISD, and possibly other locations in Lamar County throughout 2026.
On July 4, 2026, Americans will celebrate the 250th anniversary, or semiquincentennial, of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Texas America250 exhibit highlights historically significant Texas treasures from the State Archives, encouraging all Americans to explore the story of the Lone Star State over the past 250 years. From Spanish missions to the space race, the landscape, culture, economy and people of Texas have played essential roles in the development of the United States.
“We are excited to share this traveling exhibit with Paris and Lamar County,” Library Director Connie Lawman said. “Texans of all ages can learn more about our state’s role in U.S. history and explore some of our most treasured documents, photographs and artifacts.”
The exhibit is available for display at other libraries, schools, museums and other organizations in Lamar County during 2026. Contact Lawman at the Paris Public Library, 903-785-8531, for more information.
TSLAC also invites Texans of all ages to join its statewide Texas America250 Reading Challenge in 2026. Additional resources from TSLAC’s extensive library collections, the Talking Book Program and the Texas Center for the Book will be available later this year.
