The Paris Police Department is warning citizens of a scam regarding satellite TV services.
“We just received information from a citizen who advised that they received a call from a satellite TV service and the representative claimed that they now have a fix so that customers do not lose service during storms,” said Paris PD.
After supposedly fixing the problem, they advise that the customer has to have a new box in the home for it to work and the box costs over $200. They then ask for credit card information so that the box can be sent to the home.
“Please be aware of who you are talking to when you receive calls from people representing businesses. And remember, never give personal information to anyone that you are not 100% sure that you know. Tell the person calling that you will call the business yourself to talk to a representative. Scammers are out there and will prey on anyone that will give them the opportunity.”
