On Sept. 19, Paula Jean Smith (49) was arrested in the 2100 block of E. Cherry St on an outstanding warrant from Austin Parole Board for Parole Violation Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Smith was booked and transferred to Lamar County jail
On Sept. 19, an officer on patrol observed a subject wearing a ski mask and wearing a back pack in the 300 block of NW 3rd. The subject was riding a bicycle with no lighting or reflective devices. This fits the habits of subjects involved in instances of Burglary of Motor Vehicle, multiple incidents having occurred in the area recently The officer stopped the subject for not having proper equipment for the bicycle. The individual was identified as Isaiah Black (17). As the officer questioned Black, Black admitted to having a small amount of marijuana, which he turned over to the officer. The officer noted that as he was speaking with Black, the subject was giving physical indicators of an intent to flee as well as fumbling around his waistband. When the officer attempted to control Black’s movement to prevent this, Black began to actively resist and reach for the waistband of his clothing. The officer saw an object which he believed to be a handgun. The officer struggled with Black for an extended period of time until other officers arrived and Black was taken into custody. Black was found to be in possession of a stolen 9mm handgun, which was in his waistband. He was also in possession of more marijuana as well as gloves, which are commonly used in vehicular burglaries. Black was charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, Resisting Arrest or Transport, and Possession of Marijuana.
On Sept. 20, Officers were dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident in the 3900 block of Bonham St. Officers arrived and observed a one vehicle accident. The vehicle had impacted a support for the overpass for Loop 286. A witness on the scene advised that the driver was in his (the witness’s) vehicle and was intoxicated. Officers made contact with the driver, Moises Chaverria (19) who was found to exhibit symptoms of intoxication. Chaverria denied having been drinking, refused to perform field sobriety test, and refused a blood draw. Chaverria was arrested for DWI. A search warrant was obtained and Chaveria was taken to PRMC where a sample of his blood was drawn. Chaverria was found to be in possession of two THC vape pens. He was subsequently charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Driving While Intoxicated. He was booked and later transported to Lamar County Jail. No other vehicles or persons were involved in the accident.
Officers made 55 traffic stops, 12 adult arrest, and answered 318 calls for service during this reporting period.
