On Oct. 13, Officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation in the 1900 block of Fairfax. They made contact with the driver who was found to have misdemeanor traffic warrants. When they asked the passenger for identification he gave a fictitious name. The arresting officer checked the name and date of birth and could find no one by that name. Further investigation revealed that the subject, identified as Mario Deshun Gill (49), had an outstanding Parole Warrant. Gill later confessed to having given officers false information to avoid the arrest on the warrant. He was charged with Fail to Identify as a Fugitive From Justice as well as the Parole violation and booked without incident.
On Oct. 13, an officer reporting to a city ordinance violation (Open Burn) in the 1000 block of SE 15th made contact with Shane William Michel (46), who was burning brush in his back yard. Michel was told to extinguish the fire as it was a violation. While Michel was putting out the fire, the officer checked for warrants on Michel. It was discovered that Michel had an outstanding warrant for Habitual Credit Card or Debit Card Abuse. Michel was arrested on the charge and transported to the department for booking. Prior to being placed in jail. Michel was searched and was discovered to have a small amount of methamphetamine in a small bag attached to his underwear. He was subsequently charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
On Oct. 13, Officers observed Charles Lewis Nichols (39) in the 1800 block of Bonham St. A warrant check revealed an outstanding warrant for Criminal Trespassing. Officers then located Nichols at his residence in the 1500 block of W. Houston. They made contact with Nichols and advised him of the warrant. When they attempted to take Nichols into custody, he resisted by pulling away from officers and attempting to jerk the handcuffs from the officers possession. Nichols was physically subdued and taken into custody. He was charged with Resisting Arrest or Transport in addition to the initial warrant.
On Oct. 13, Officers responded to a disturbance call in the 1400 block of W. Houston involving Kevin Shawn Rayburn (43). Rayburn was allegedly making threats to the residents of the address. Upon arrival, officers detained Rayburn, who they found on the property and secured him in handcuffs. A warrant check confirmed that Rayburn had an outstanding warrant for Interference with an Emergency Phone Call. This warrant was a result of a September 9, 2025 incident in which Rayburn knocked the phone from a victim’s hand as they were calling 911. While searching Rayburn after the arrest, an officer located a small packet containing methamphetamine in Rayburn’s pants pocket. Rayburn was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was booked on both charges and later transferred to Lamar County Jail.
Officers made 25 traffic stops, 5 adult arrest, and answered 100 calls for service during this reporting period.
