11/14 The Department was notified of an assault which took place in the 400 block of Grand Avenue. The 18 year old victim told officers that she had been choked by the 25 year old father of her 5 month old child. The suspect tried to take the child to another location and the victim would not allow it. The suspect then entered the victim’s bedroom and choked her with his hands, having to be pulled off the victim by another family member. Officers observed corroborating evidence of the reported crime and collected photographs of the scene. The suspect and witnesses had left the scene prior to officers arrival. The case is under investigation.
11/14 On September 18, 2025 officers seized a handgun from a subject in the 100 block of SE 13th. The initial call was “Man with a Gun”. The suspect was found to be in possession of a Pink handgun. He was arrested for an outstanding warrant, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, and Possession of Marijuana. At the time of the arrest, the gun was not reported as stolen. On November 14, a trace summary from the ATF was received identifying the official purchaser of the firearm. The owner was contacted and advised that she was still in possession of the handgun. After being advised that the gun was in possession of law enforcement the owner discovered that the firearm had been stolen from her vehicle. The owner knew the subject arrested in September and advised he had been in her vehicle and could have taken the firearm then. A report of Burglary of a Motor Vehicle was initiated and warrants will be forthcoming for the known suspect.
11/15 Officers responded to a Burglary of Habitation involving an assault. The victim advised she was at her home when an ex-girlfriend and the girlfriend’s mother entered the residence unannounced and without permission and assaulted her. The known suspects then left the scene. Officers observed evidence of the assault and spoke with the suspects at a different location. The victim requested a protective order. The case will be referred to Lamar County Attorney for Prosecution.
Officers made 46 traffic stops, 7 adult arrest, and answered 263 calls for service during this reporting period.
