On July 3, Diana Lajoyce McCarty (51) and Carlos Dewayne Williams (56) both of Paris, were arrested and charged with Forgery of a Financial Instrument. This arrest resulted from reported activity starting in July 2024 in which the pair were implicated in theft from an individual whom McCarty was assisting in a home health type role. The suspects were cashing checks on the victim without authorization and had stolen a substantial amount of money from the victim’s account until the bank caught the activity. Both were arrested without incident, booked and taken to Lamar County Jail.
On July 5, at approximately 4:51 a.m. officers were notified of an unattended child in the street. Officers responded to the 10 block of W. Washington and met witnesses who had picked up the child and delivered it to a relative. According to witnesses the child’s mother could not be contacted. An investigation was started and continues. The child was uninjured. Child Protective Services were notified of the incident. It is believed that the approximately 2 year old child may have been left unattended and had escaped from the residence. The investigation continues.
On July 5, Officers received a report of a Burglary Habitation. The incident reportedly took place in the 500 block of NE 14th. The victim advised that a known suspect entered a locked shop by squeezing under an overhead shop door. Once inside the suspect took a paint gun and a battery charger. Complainant says that the suspect did not own or have permission to take the items. The suspect was not able to be located and the investigation is continuing.
On July 6, Officers stopped Charles Lee Gilbert (38) of Paris in the 1000 block of NW 3rd for an equipment violation. Gilbert was identified and questioned as to his identity as he had no issued identity in his possession. During the conversation, it was discovered that Gilbert was in possession of drug paraphernalia and a substance which tested positive for methamphetamine. Gilbert was arrested on Possession of a Controlled Substance and processed without incident.
Officers made 111 traffic stops, 15 adult arrest, and answered 517 calls for service during this reporting period.
