On July 24, Officers stopped Shmeka Donetta Brooks (52) in the 300 block of NE 5th St for failure to signal a turn. Upon contact Brooks was found to be intoxicated. Field sobriety testing confirmed the officers opinion. Brooks was taken for a blood draw and then placed in jail. It was discovered during booking that Brooks had two prior convictions for Driving While Intoxicated. She was subsequently charged with an enhanced charge of DWI with 2 or more priors, a Felony. She was booked without incident.
On July 24, Officers made contact with James Burton House (63) in the 300 block of NE 11th. During the contact, House agreed to a pat down for weapons. He voluntarily emptied his pockets and proffered a cigarette pack to officers. Inside the cigarette pack officers located over 3 grams of Methamphetamine. House was also in possession of a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine as well as a plastic container that had been used for storage of methamphetamine. He was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and booked without incident.
On July 25 at 0330hrs Officers were notified of an individual passed out in the drive thru of a restaurant in the 2400 block of N. Main. They arrived and witnessed the driver, identified as John Edsson Alarcon (21), attempting to driver from the scene. Alarcon was stopped and asked to get out of the vehicle. When he complied, officers smelled an alcoholic beverage on Alarcon’s breath. Alarcon was found to be intoxicated. He refused to perform any field sobriety test but submitted to a search of his person. A THC vape was found in his pocket. There was a handgun in open view in the vehicle as well. Alarcon was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While Intoxicated, and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. He was booked without incident.
Officers made 22 traffic stops, 8 adult arrest, and answered 116 calls for service during this reporting period.
