On July 17, Officers spoke with a victim at the Police Department. The victim advised that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend in the 2400 block of Ridgeview Rd. She advised that the known suspect had choked her repeatedly with his hands and also with a t shirt. The suspect had smothered her with a pillow as well. The suspect had also pointed a handgun at her head and threatened to kill her with it and then struck the victim in the forehead with the handgun. Officers observed text messages from the suspect threatening to kill the victim and her family. Evidence was collected and a protective order was obtained for the victim. The case is pending and warrants will be sought for the arrest of the suspect.
On July 19, Officers responded to a security check in the 3500 block of NE Loop 286. The owners wanted the parking lot cleared of loitering individuals. The officers approached a vehicle with three occupants. They made contact with the driver and passengers who had open containers in view. As one of the officers went to open the passenger front door, another officer saw Jaqaveon Yuon Bell (24) of Paris reach for a handgun from the door pocket. Bell was ordered to drop the handgun, which he did, in the passenger floorboard. All subjects were removed from the vehicle. Bell was immediately detained and another handgun was located in Bell’s waistband. Officers observed an open backpack in the area where Bell was seated in the vehicle. Inside were two bags of marijuana. Bell was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. He was booked and taken to Lamar County Jail.
On July 20, Officers made contact with Shelby Nicole Adams (33) in the 900 block of NW 28th. Adams was walking in the street. Upon contact, Adams told the officers that she had an out standing warrant and that she had narcotics on her person. She told officers that she had narcotics in her backpack. She gave the officers the backpack and they recovered Marijuana and Methamphetamine from the pack. Adams had two Class C Misdemeanor warrants, one for Open Container and one for Fail to appear. She was arrested on the on view charges as well as the warrants and processed without incident.
On July 20, Officers responded to the 1200 block of Graham St. in response to a disturbance call. They arrived and met with a female victim who advised she was pregnant and had been assaulted by the unborn child’s father. The victim advised she had the suspect, Perry Ladaurise Franklin (26) had been arguing and he had struck her with his elbow in her solar plexus causing her to fall to the floor. The suspect then told the victim he would stomp her in the stomach. Franklin was on scene and there was physical evidence to substantiate the victim’s story. Franklin was arrested for Assault of a Pregnant Person, a Felony, and booked without incident. A protective order was filed for on behalf of the victim.
On July 20, Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of N. Main regarding a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival the officers found a vehicle which had struck an object and damaged a tire. The driver, Joshua Oneal Starling (42) was recognized as the suspect in a disturbance which had occurred approximately 20 minutes earlier in the 2400 block of N. Main St. Starling was found to be in an intoxicated state and was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated based on testimony from the earlier incident. As officers were processing Starling for the taking of a specimen of his blood for prosecution, he kicked two of the officers and was subsequently charged with Assault of a Public Servant. He was booked and taken to Lamar County Jail.
On July 20, Officers worked a report of an injury to a child reported to have occurred in the 600 block of SW 7th. The reporting person advised that three children ages nine, seven, and five, had been struck with a belt in multiple locations on their bodies. The reporting person, a family member, advised that the children are not being fed more than twice a day and are suffering abuse by beating by a known suspect. Child protective services were notified and evidence was collected at the time of the report. The victim’s are going to be with another family member pending the outcome of the incident.
Officers made 95 traffic stops, 19 adult arrest, and answered 297 calls for service during this reporting period.
