On Jan. 20, The department was notified of a Burglary of a Building occurring in the 2100 block of E. Cherry. The victim has a rented storage unit at the location. On January 15, the victim was notified by management that the storage unit had been broken into. The victim inventoried the contents of the unit and found that a two drawer file cabinet had been taken. The cabinet contained victim’s personal papers as well as titles to her vehicles. The case is under investigation.
On Jan. 20, Officers responded to a traffic violation complaint in the 3800 block of Lamar Avenue. The suspect had left the area but was located and stopped in the 2400 block of Lamar Avenue. The driver was either intoxicated on some substance or was suffering some sort of medical emergency as he was off balance and slurring his words. The driver was transported to a medical facility by Paris EMS. A handgun was located within the vehicle. A criminal history revealed that the driver was a convicted felon and was not allowed to be in possession of a handgun outside his residence. The weapon was confiscated and the investigation will proceed.
On Jan. 20, The department received a call of a shot fired in the 200 block of SE 20th. Upon arrival officers spoke with witnesses who said that their roommate, James Michael McGrath (42) had been in an argument with them. They advised that McGrath had retrieved a handgun and had fired one round off the front porch into the dirt in the front yard. Officers located McGrath inside the residence and detained him for safety purposes. They retrieved the handgun, and spoke with McGrath, who denied any argument and said he had only fired the handgun in celebratory fashion since they had not done any fireworks for the New Year’s celebration. It was determined that the projectile from the shot could have crossed the street and struck an occupied residence in that area. McGrath was arrested and charged with Deadly Conduct, Discharging a Weapon, A Felony.
On Jan. 20, Officers responded to a disturbance in the 400 block of E. Provine. Information provided alleged that Tywan De’Kesh Dawson (48) had struck the victim with a stick. Officers spoke with the victim, a 61 year old male, who advised that Dawson is his nephew who lives with him. The victim said that Dawson had arrived at the house and finding the door locked had tried to kick the door in. Eventually, Dawson began beating the door with a stick and upon gaining entry to the residence assaulted the victim by striking the victim several times as victim was calling for police assistance. There were obvious injuries to the victim including severe lacerations. A witness on scene corroborated the victim’s story. Dawson was located a short distance away by officers. He eventually confessed to having broken into the residence and assaulted the victim. When officers attempted to take Dawson into custody, he actively resisted arrest by striking officers with his elbows and jerking away from officers. He was eventually taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Family Violence, a Felony, and Resisting Arrest. Dawson was booked and taken to county jail.
Officers made 13 traffic stops, 3 adult arrest, and answered 103 calls for service during this reporting period.
