On Jan. 14, the department received a welfare concern from an individual from Grayson County. The subject advised that they were concerned for the safety of their 37 year old daughter. The subject advised that they believed the daughter was being abused and held against her will. The caller advised that the victim was probably in the company of Anthony Dorsett Smith (46) of Paris and provided several addresses for Smith. Officers checked several addresses and could not locate Smith or the victim. The following date, January 15, 2026 officers received information that the victim and Smith were possibly in a local hotel. Officers located the victim’s vehicle at a hotel in the 1900 block of Lamar Avenue. They made contact with the victim and Smith at the hotel where they were advised by the victim that she had been held against her will for several weeks by Smith. Officers observed physical evidence of assault to the victim. She expressed fear of Smith and told officers that she had been strangled and assaulted several times by Smith recently. The victim advised Smith had threatened to kill her if she left or called police. Smith was arrested and charged with Continuous Violence Against the Family, a Felony, and Unlawful Restraint. Evidence was collected at the hotel room, including a weapon. Officers located further accounts of Smith being charged in the past with Assault against a Family Member. Smith was booked and placed in county jail.
On Jan. 15, Officers were notified of a Burglary of a vehicle occurring within the past two days in the 1600 block of Lamar Avenue. The victim advised that the unknown suspect had entered her vehicle and stolen a handgun from the center console. The victim was unsure if the vehicle was locked or not. The handgun was entered as stolen and the incident is under investigation.
On Jan. 15, Officers assisting Paris EMS were notified of an assault occurring approximately a week prior. The victim being treated and other witnesses advised officers that the 35 year old victim had been assaulted by an ex boyfriend at an address in the 300 block of SE 9th. The victim stated the suspect had grabbed her and thrown her to the concrete, causing injuries to her ribs, and had then choked her with his hands for several minutes, cutting off her breath. The suspect’s identity is known. The victim was treated by medical personnel and the investigation will continue.
On Jan. 15, Officers stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of SE 12th for an equipment violation. They made contact with the driver, Joshua Aaron Whitworth (44) and a passenger Courtney Rashele Ollie (35). During questioning, Whitworth admitted to having marijuana and methamphetamine on his person. He was searched and the illegal substances were taken into custody. Whitworth was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Ollie had outstanding warrants for failure to confine dogs as well as an a Bond Surrender warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Both subjects were booked and placed in jail.
Officers made 22 traffic stops, 3 adult arrest, and answered 96 calls for service during this reporting period.
