On Feb. 4, The department received two reports of fraud. The victims were contacted by phone by an individual identifying themselves falsely as a member of the Sheriff’s Office. The caller advised the victim’s that they had failed to show up for court hearings and would be arrested if they did not send in payment immediately through “Green Dot” (cash cards) and in one instance “BitCoin”. The victims sent payment and were defrauded. The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office is not making these calls. These incidents are fraudulent scams.
The public should be aware not to submit any payments unless they themselves have contacted the demanding agency and confirmed with that legitimate agency that money is owed.
Officers made 45 traffic stops, 9 adult arrest, and answered 98 calls for service during this reporting period.
