On Aug. 8, Officers responded to the 100 block of NE 27th in regards to a Burglary of Habitation. The reporting person advised they had arrived at the residence which was supposed to be vacant to check on the property. When the reporting party arrived they found that the residence had been entered and a suspect was still on site. The officer and owner entered the residence and found that it had been burglarized. The officer then located Jody Paul Haagenson (45) of Paris walking out of the front of the residence. Haagenson was wearing clothes recognized to be from the residence. Haagenson was unable to give a legitimate reason for his presence in the residence. He was arrested and charged with on view Burglary of a Building. He was processed and booked without incident.
On Aug. 9, Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Fitzhugh Ave. after observing a vehicle driving erratically and apparently attempting to evade officers. They made contact with Mitchell Lavonne Harris (26). Officers observed Harris to be very nervous and also observed a THC vape pen in the vehicle. Harris was removed from the vehicle and detained. A search of the vehicle netted a handgun in the vehicle console as well as over 9 ounces of marijuana packaged for sale. There were also several THC vape pens and a large quantity of cocaine. Harris was arrested an charged with three counts of Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana, Cocaine, THC) an since he is a convicted felon, one charge of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The handgun was found to be stolen out of Rockwall Texas. Harris was booked and placed in jail.
On Aug. 9, Officers responded to a wrecked vehicle in the 1000 block of W. Sherman. They located a 2018 GMC truck in the ditch where it had struck a tree. The vehicle airbags had deployed and there was severe damage to the front end. Officers located the registered owner who advised they had just gotten up about a half hour earlier and noticed the vehicle was missing. He claimed he was about to call police to report the vehicle stolen. The owner also claimed there were numerous tools and a generator in the vehicle. No tools or other items were currently in the vehicle when recovered. Evidence was collected and the case is under investigation.
Officers made 42 traffic stops, 11 adult arrest, and answered 316 calls for service during this reporting period.
